The ISOC Regional Director, Dr. Dawit Bekele joined the Internet community of Madagascar on June 15 and 16, 2018 for the inauguration of the ISOC Madagascar Chapter, which is the 35th Chapter of the ISOC.. This inauguration was accompanied by a series of two conferences: the first took place on June 15, 2018 at the Akademia Malagasy on the theme “What kind of Internet do we really want in Madagascar?” And the second on June 16, 2018 at the Hotel du Louvre on the theme “Future of the Internet: Challenges and Opportunities”. Dr. Bekele took the opportunity to introduce the Internet Society to the Malagasy Internet Community and to discuss opportunities for collaboration and partnership for the development of Internet on Madagascar, which is open for all, secure and trustworthy.
During the first conference of June 15, 2018, Dawit discussed with all the stakeholders of the Malagasy Internet ecosystem on the state of play, the challenges and opportunities of the development of the Internet in Madagascar. He took the opportunity to present the priority axes (campaigns) of the Internet Society for the year 2018 with a particular focus on the alternative Community Networks as a sustainable solution to connect the unconnected on Madagascar and Africa. At the second conference on June 16, 2018, Dr. Dawit Bekele joined ISOC Madagascar Chapter members and supporters for a rich discussion on the future of the Internet and how the ISOC Madagascar Chapter can help shape the future of the Internet on Madagascar. He took this opportunity to recall the vision and mission of the Internet Society and the opportunities for this Chapter and its members.
