Dear Internet Colleagues:
Thank you for your letter, which we have read with interest. We appreciate the depth of commitment that so many mission-driven organizations express for .ORG. Your proposals for governance changes to both the Internet Society and Public Interest Registry (PIR) require careful analysis in order to evaluate whether they are lawful to implement. Recently, as you may be aware, the Internet Society Board of Trustees chartered the Governance Reform Working Group to examine proposals for governance changes to the Internet Society. The Working Group involves different parts of the community that make up the Internet Society. This means that your proposals will also need to be analyzed in light of any changes that result from the Working Group. PIR continues and will continue to operate as it ever did, providing the same exemplary registry services it always has.
The COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the critical role of the Internet for society at large, and millions of people are depending on the Internet to demand they be treated equally as humans. The Internet Society works every day together with others to make a strong Internet available to all who want and need it. It is critical that we work together to continue to ensure an open and accessible Internet that facilitates the incredibly important work that .ORGs do all over the world.
Yours sincerely,
Andrew Sullivan
