The United States National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) provides a series of excellent statistics on IPv6 and DNSSEC adoption within the US government and also within the .COM and .EDU domains. The site, operated by NIST’s Advanced Network Technologies Division, is available at:
By default you will land on the site showing US government statistics and after a few initial charts you will see a long list of government sites with their current readiness (or lack thereof) for:
- IPv6 DNS
- IPv6 email
- IPv6 web presence
- DNSSEC
The site also includes other useful statistics where NIST is estimating the industry and university adoption of IPv6 and DNSSEC by tracking a subset of the industry and university sites out there:
- Industry IPv6 & DNSSEC External Service Deployment Status
- University IPv6 & DNSSEC External Service Deployment Status
NIST also provides a “snapshot” area that summarizes overall IPv6 and DNSSEC adoption – and currently has far too much “red” on the charts:
All the information is updated regularly and provides a very useful view into the current state of deployment.
