Biography

Barry Leiba has been a Director of Internet Standards at Futurewei Technologies since 2009. Before that he was a Senior Technical Staff Member at IBM's Research Division, and worked for IBM since 1977. He has worked on email and related technology since the early 1980s, and currently focuses on the "Internet of Things", messaging and collaboration on mobile platforms, security and privacy of Internet applications, and Internet standards development and deployment.

Barry has a long history of service to the Internet community. He has been active in the Internet Engineering Task Force since the mid 1990s and is an author of a number of proposed standards, has chaired many working groups in the Applications and Security Areas, and has been a member of the Internet Architecture Board (IAB) and the Internet Engineering Steering Group (IESG). He is a member of the Security and Stability Advisory Committee (SSAC) in ICANN and is in the Messaging Mobile and Malware Anti-Abuse Working Group (M3AAWG) as a Senior Technical Advisor and the liaison from the IETF. He is Associate Editor-in-Chief of IEEE Internet Computing magazine, in charge of departments and columns, and has participated on panels at the Internet Governance Forum.

Barry is committed to a free and open Internet and strongly supports the Internet Society's mission of growing and strengthening the Internet -- through technology development, standards development, education and outreach, and enabling fellowships and other programs and projects.
