Director, Governmental Affairs and Advocacy

Biography

I joined the Internet Society in July 2021 and serve as the Director of Governmental Affairs and Advocacy. In my role I track and analyze incoming legislation to understand how it may positively or negatively impact the Internet and use this information to advocate for change.

Prior to joining the Internet Society, I worked as a senior policy advisor in the UK Civil Service, where I was team lead on Internet safety negotiations under the UK’s G7 presidency. As a UK civil servant, I additionally conducted research and produced policy recommendations on digital currencies, mobile payments, and government engagement with international big tech. I also spent five years working for the nonprofit media organization Project Syndicate, where I negotiated grants and media partnerships with leading publications in 55 countries in Africa, Asia, and Europe. These experiences have shaped my passion for the intersections of technology, freedom of speech, and media sustainability.

I hold a Master’s Degree in Public Policy from the University of Oxford as well as Bachelor degrees in International Politics and East Asian Studies from New York University.

I have a passion for languages and speak fluent Mandarin Chinese as well as intermediate Czech and Russian. My favorite thing to do on a weekend is to head to the countryside for a hike or bike ride.
