The Network and Distributed Systems Security (NDSS) Symposium returns to San Diego, USA, from 26 February to 1 March 2024.
An incubator of ideas, the NDSS Symposium has for 31 years brought together leading academics, industry researchers, students, and security practitioners to discuss top-tier, peer-reviewed research and exchange ideas.
Register before 31 January to take advantage of early bird rates!
In this time, network and information security has evolved from a feature to a requirement, with plenty of hard lessons learned along the way.
This year’s two keynote speakers—Meredith Whittaker (President, Signal) and Herbert Bos (Professor, Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam)—will draw on their 17-plus years of research and experience in the industry and academia to elaborate on these lessons and how they have set us on the path we are on today.
In her keynote, “AI, Encryption, and the Sins of the 90s,” Meredith Whittaker will review the connections between where we are now and how we got here, including the “Crypto Wars,” the role of encryption and privacy, and ultimately, the hype of AI.
In his keynote, “Corruption of Memory: Those who don’t know history are doomed to repeat it,” Professor Bos will add further context through the lens of the VUSec Systems Security group’s many years of research at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam and illustrate its alignment with industry.
130 Papers, 8 Co-Located Events
NDSS Symposium 2024 will also include presentations from authors of 140 accepted papers across three parallel tracks and 40 poster presentations. In addition, there will be eight co-located events on the Monday before and the Friday after the main symposium, focusing on specific areas of network security research.
- The 2nd Symposium on Vehicle Security and Privacy (VehicleSec 2024) will discuss the security and privacy issues related to the onboard systems of ground, aerial, underwater, and space vehicles, their supporting infrastructures, and associated technologies.
- The 2nd Workshop on Security of Space and Satellite Systems (SpaceSec 2024) raises awareness of attack vectors and vulnerabilities in light of major attacks on the ViaSat network and ongoing disruptions of the Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS).
- The Workshop on Artificial Intelligence System with Confidential Computing (AISCC 2024) seeks to advance the use of Trusted Execution Environments in addressing AI security challenges and explore new issues arising in the convergence of these two domains.
- Workshop on Security and Privacy in Standardized IoT (SDIoTSec) considers the foundational role of IoT design standards and their open-source implementation in IoT systems’ security, privacy, and trustworthiness.
- The Usable Security and Privacy Symposium (USEC 2024) considers how users approach and behave with respect to security and privacy and how systems can be better designed to reflect this.
- The Workshop on Security Operation Centers (SOC) Operations and Construction (WOSOC 2024) is where the SOC operational community can interact with researchers to discuss requirements and develop new tools and practices in this evolving field.
- The Workshop on Measurements, Attacks, and Defenses for the Web (MADWeb 2024) evaluates the security aspects of web browsers and apps with the aim of improving browser architectures, security policies, privacy-enhancing techniques, and measurements for the purposes of studying illegal activities.
- The Workshop on Binary Analysis Research (BAR 2024) brings together research on the growing field of binary code analysis, which is needed to analyze embedded devices and closed-source commercial and legacy software for potential cyber threats.
